Collections allow you to group products into one category so that your customers can easily find related products and browse your online shop.
Shopify products have always been organised in what they call collections and not categories. There is also no way to create a hierarchy with collections. In other words, Shopify has no such things as subcategories or subcollections.
In Shopify, you can create a manual or automated collection. An automated collection can be made with a specific set of conditions to automatically match and add the products.
One of the disadvantages of Shopify collections is that an automated collection is unable to be edited. Hence, you cant remove or add a product once the conditions are matched.
To match the conditions, you can choose if the products need to match "all" or "any", but you cant choose "some" or "specific" conditions only.
The biggest drawback of Shopify collections is the inability to import or export them.
With the connector's use, you can create collections/categories in Shopify and import them to Odoo. Because there is no import/export to Shopify's collections, the connector will automatically import your collections from Shopify to Odoo when you import your products.
So, the process will be the same as when importing products.
1. Go to your Sales channel,
2. Click on Settings
3. Then, Products
4. And choose Import Products.
In this way, you will import all of your products and the categories to which they are assigned.
Tip: You can update your collections in Shopify, and the next time the connector imports your products, automatically or manually, it will import the changes to the collections as well.
To see your collections you have to:
1. Go to the Inventory module,
2. Click on Products
3. Then choose Categories By Channel.
From this dashboard, you can open and edit any of your collections and assign new products to a particular category. Unfortunately, The connector won't export these changes to Shopify.
